What do you think of teaching ethics, as an alternative to religious education in Australian public schools?

What religious education is appropriate in public schools? To educate students about various religious beliefs (includes Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hindu, Indigenous peoples, etc.) but be sure not to teach any of it as true. It should be taught in a way for the student to understand other faiths and the people of those faiths. An ethics cl should be taught as well.
