What's a bereavement list in baseball?

It's a short-term (3-7 days) inactive leave, which allows players some time off to deal with deaths in the family or other emergency situations. Players on bereavement leave still count against the 40-man reserve roster but not the 25-man active roster, so another player can be activated.
